GJA inaugurates committees to support its work

  1. The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has inaugurated seven committees and a council to augment the operations of the association.
The committees include Membership Vetting Committee, Professional Development Committee, Social Affairs Committee, International Relations Committee, Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee.
Aside the Research Committee, Constitution Review Committee, the Association also inaugurated an Ethics and Disciplinary Council
Speaking at the inauguration in Accra on Wednesday, the GJA President, Dr Roland Affail-Monney  was optimistic that members of the various committees will deliver.
“Looking at the people involved, I believe they will do a good job,” he said.
To the members of the committees, Dr Roland Affail-Monney urged them to work hard and Produce reports to catapult the GJA to the level it wants to be.
He urged journalists not to allow themselves to be influenced by political parties to tilt reports in their favour.
“We are in a election year, the new voter’s register back and forth has the tendencies to scale up tension. Stand by what our profession says..We should be objective and fair in our reportage,” he said.
Ambassador Kabral-Blay Amihere, former GJA President who also noted that it is the Constitutional duty of  members to assist GJA national executives in their work, commended the GJA for inaugurating the committees.
He urged the members to make appropriate decisions and recommendations to the national executives, but also, ensure that all their decisions are guided by the constitution.
“Work hard to ensure that many practicing journalists will be attracted to join us.
Make GJA great again on the international scene. We need to explore innovative ways of generating funds which can go into our investments,” he said.

A Representative of the committee, Dr Anthony Bonnah-Koomson thanked the GJA for having confidence in all the members and appointing them.
“We hope that with their help we will deliver as its expected,” he said.
A Former GJA Gen Sec Emiritus Bright Blewu also advised the committees to ensure the sustainability of the various committtees.
He noted that sometime back, some of these committees were inaugurated but they collapsed over time.
“Think through how we can sustain this. We should deliver, go back to the drawing board to see how best it can be sustained. Create a social media platform to link up with the executives quick when something is going bad.. and also try to meet regularly to ensure everything goes well,” he added.
