Gov’t to release timetable to address hitches in Basic School reopening date

The Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, Mr Kwesi Kwarteng, says the Ministry is set to release a comprehensive timetable which will address hitches in the reopening date for government basic schools.

This comes after the complaints about uncertainty in the re-opening date for government basic schools went viral.

Unlike government schools, leadership of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) announced January 11, 2022, as the reopening date for private schools across the country to commence academic work for the next academic year.

It is currently unclear when government basic schools particularly prospective students in Junior High Schools and Basic Schools (JHSs) will report to school to commence academic activities for the 2022 academic year.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim the Public Relations officer for the Ministry of Education, Mr Kwesi Kwarteng, said Minister for education has set up a ministerial committee on Schools calendar.

He added that the committee has been tasked to come up with a timetable to address the inconsistency in the re-opening date for government basic schools.

Mr Kwesi Kwarteng noted that the committee will come up with its report and subsequently set a date for resumption of basic schools by the close of the week.

“The Minister for Education has set up a ministerial committee on the schools’ calendar. The committee will come up with its report and subsequently a date for resumption of basic schools by the close of the week. This comprehensive timetable will address the concerns about the inconsistency in the reopening date for basic schools once and for all.  Let’s all have the patience and wait because the minister has a solution to the issue,” Mr Kwesi Kwarteng told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
