HB Foundation- a Tema based humanitarian aid group has made a massive donation to some mothers of children living with Cerebral Palsy under the YOA Foundation in Accra.

The support, which came in the form of items including bags of rice, cooking oil, second clothes, shoes, non-alcoholic beverages amongst others were meant to support mothers of these children who are mostly unemployed due to the situation of their wards.

The donation, which was necessitated by a news report by Atinka News some weeks ago concerning the plight of some mothers under the YOA Foundation with regards to the struggles they go through in taking care of their children, saw over 50 mothers and their wards benefiting from the gesture.

Director of the HB Foundation, Joseph Kwasi Kai, who was moved by the plight of the mothers stressed on the need for government to set up special cerebral palsy medical units across the country to make treatment accessible to all.

He said the donation, which also forms part of activities to celebrate his daughter who happens to be the deputy CEO of the organization will not be a nine -day wonder.

Facilitators of the YAO Foundation, Madam Benedicta Oduro and Maame Dufie Nyarkoh who received the items on behalf of the foundation were full of praise for HB Foundation for the gesture.

They called on government to  place  some drugs meant for the treatment of cerebral palsy  on the NHIS and  also make physiotherapy session free for cerebral palsy patients  since that will go a long way to lessen the financial burden on  parents.

Cerebral palsy is a congenital disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture.

Cerebral palsy is due to abnormal brain development, often before birth.
Symptoms include exaggerated reflexes, floppy or rigid limbs and involuntary motions. These appear by early childhood.
Long-term treatment includes physical and other therapies, drugs and sometimes surgery.
