“How good is money to a dying soul?”– Ghanaian student in China to gov’t

Former President of the National Union of Ghana Students in China, Philip Arthur, says students in China need evacuation and not money.
This comes after government, in a statement, said it had released money to be disbursed to Ghanaian students in China.
“Additional amounts of US$50,000.00 and US$200,000.00 have been transferred separately to the Mission in Beijing to cater for the emergency needs of the students. The Mission is working with the student leadership in Wuhan to collate the names and bank details of beneficiary students. The accounts of students are expected to be credited by Wednesday, 20th February 2020,” the statement said.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Former President of the National Union           of Ghana Students in China, Philip Arthur, noted that although the money is yet to be received by these students in China, the money will be rendered useless since students cannot move out to use the money.
“The government is being insensitive, we are calling for evacuation and you are sending us money, how good is money to a dying soul. Even if the monies get to the students by what means are you transporting yourself to town since transport systems are not working in China, this is what we are talking about, we are talking about safety. We are not in need of money” he fumed.
Philip Arthur asked government to stop playing politics with the coronavirus epidemic and state emphatically whether or not students in China will be evacuated.
Death toll for the coronavirus has reportedly risen to 2000.
Health officials say the new virus is a coronavirus, which is a family of viruses that include the common cold, and viruses such as SARS and MERS.
Coronaviruses are common in many different species of animals, including camels and bats. Rarely, these coronaviruses can evolve and infect humans and then spread between humans, recent examples of this include SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV.
Until 2019 most coronaviruses infect animals, but not people.
Director of Public Health at Ghana Health Service in Ghana, Dr. Badu Sarkodie, has stated that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is putting measures in place to ensure that the deadly virus, Coronavirus, does not enter Ghana.
