“It would have been deadly if rifle had fallen into wrong hands”- Expert

Security analyst, Adib Saani says there would have been dire consequences if a rifle left in a commercial vehicle had fallen into the wrong hands.

This comment by the security expert is in line with the service rifle left in a commercial vehicle by a police inspector.

Police Inspector, Sulemana Adam, of the Rapid Deployment Force in Takoradi, in the Western Region, has been interdicted for negligently leaving a service rifle in a commercial vehicle.

The said rifle was returned by the driver of the vehicle in question.

The driver alleged that the inspector had “extorted money from him.”

A statement signed by Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, Head of Public Affairs Unit at the Western Regional Police Command said   “The interdicted officer, Inspector Sulemana Adam, station with the Rapid Deployment Force, Takoradi in the Western Region has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Both the inspector and the driver are said to be assisting with the investigation.

Speaking on the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, security analyst Adib Saani, who described the incident as unfortunate, said the issue could have been worse if the driver had picked up other passengers after the police officer allegedly alighted.

He also added that the driver could have been in trouble if the police had stopped the driver and intercepted the rifle.

“If the police had stopped the driver after the one who left alighted, he would have been in trouble; nothing he could have said would have saved him. “Also, if the rifle had fallen into the wrong hands, that would also have been very dangerous,” Adib Saani added.
