The Kwadaso Municipality in the Ashanti Region is set to build a new immunization centre to improve access to child healthcare and reduce the number of “zero-dose” children—those who have not received any routine vaccines.
The project was launched with a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kwadaso Ohwimase M/A Basic School, attended by health officials, representatives of non-governmental organisations and municipal authorities.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health, Ninsau K. D. Alazar, said the facility is expected to be completed within one month. He explained that immunization is essential in protecting children from preventable diseases and expressed confidence that the new centre would encourage more parents to vaccinate their newborns.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso, Eric Assebey, described the municipality’s ranking as the second highest in the country for zero-dose children as worrying. He said the new immunization centre would help improve vaccine coverage and urged parents to ensure their children receive all recommended vaccines on time.
The Kwadaso Municipal Director of Health, Grace Billi Kampitib, said the facility would bring immunization services closer to residents, especially those in hard-to-reach communities. She noted that the centre would strengthen healthcare delivery and help the municipality achieve its immunization targets.
Health officials and NGO representatives also encouraged parents to take advantage of the facility once it is completed to protect their children from preventable diseases.
