In a world of entanglements and situationships, the pursuit of love is not easy. For Akosua, Enyonam and Kuukua, (Lydia Forson, Zynnel Zuh & Naa Ashorkor), the three women at the centre of the new Ghanaian drama ‘To Have and To Hold’, it’s even harder to stay married to the man of your dreams or to hang on to the man who whisks you away to exotic destinations.

At first glance, these three best friends seem to have their lives figured out: Akosua with a great career and a loving husband; Enyonam with a husband who, despite not having much, is working hard to take care of her and their two kids; and Kuukua, with a rich man who’s ready to give her everything she wants. But sometimes, even the most perfect relationships can disintegrate when you least expect it.

Adapted from the South African series Unmarried, which also birthed another adaptation in Nigeria, To Have and To Hold follows the lives of these three women as they deal with the challenges that their marriages, relationships, and careers throw at them.

The Akwaaba Magic drama series, which is also available to stream on Showmax, is helmed by legendary Ghanaian filmmaker Ivan Quashigah (Things We Do for Love, YOLO), with award-winning Ghanaian actors as its leading ladies.

Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice and Africa Movie Academy winner Lydia Forson (A Sting in a Tale, The Perfect Picture) plays the ambitious and career-driven Akosua who, with her husband of 10 years, is the definition of relationship goals. That’s until she crashes his wedding with another woman on the same day that he told her he’s playing golf. Oh, and he also has a 10-year-old son with said woman. Who might have just escaped his mind for the past ten years they’ve been married and trying so hard to have a child of their own.

Africa Movie Academy winner Naa Ashorkor (The Best Picture, Checkmate) plays Enyonam, the housewife with two kids and a husband, Nii, who’s officially not her husband yet despite being together for nine years. Out of a job (and lying about it), and barely making enough to support his family, Nii gives in to gambling and alcoholism, putting his marriage at risk.

Fashion icon and Golden Movie Awards winner Zynnell Zuh (When Love Comes Around, Crazy, Lovely, Cool) plays Kuukua, a go-getter with a taste for the finer things in life, and with a past that she’d rather forget. Sexy and sassy, Kuukua can charm her way into any man’s heart, provided they’re rich. Like Asamoah, her married sugar daddy who takes her on random trips to Paris, keeps her on a weekly allowance of 20,000 cedis and has provided her with a fancy house and a car. That’s until Asamoah dumps her for an even younger partner, leaving her to grapple with her new reality as a broke woman.

To Have and To Hold also stars Adjetey Annang (Dede, Cartel: The Genesis), Ekow Blankson (Black Earth Rising, Checkmate), Kweku Elliot (An African City) and former Big Brother Africa housemate Elikem Kumordzie (Silver Rain).
