President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a GH¢2.00 reduction in the price of diesel to help Ghanaians cope with rising fuel prices.
The reduction takes effect on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and will last for one month, unless the government decides to extend it.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The government says the move is to reduce the high cost of transport and help keep prices of goods and services from increasing. It is also expected to provide relief to businesses and families.
The reduction applies only to diesel. There is no price cut for petrol.
Fuel prices have gone up in recent weeks, with many filling stations increasing the cost of both petrol and diesel. The government says the increase has been caused by rising global fuel prices, tensions in the Middle East, and pressure on the Ghana cedi.
This is the second time the Mahama administration has taken steps to reduce the impact of rising fuel prices on Ghanaians.
The government says it will continue to monitor fuel prices and may introduce more measures if needed. Oil Marketing Companies are expected to adjust their pump prices to reflect the GH¢2 diesel reduction from Tuesday.
