President John Dramani Mahama has warned airport workers against soliciting tips or begging visitors, saying such conduct damages Ghana’s image and creates a negative impression of the country.
He said every worker at the airport, including immigration officers, baggage handlers and transport operators, has a role to play in giving visitors a positive experience.
President Mahama made the remarks at the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a multi-tiered car park and airport hotels complex at the Accra International Airport.
He said Ghana’s position in the aviation sector must be supported by efficient services, strong safety standards and good customer care.
President Mahama said the new seven-storey facility would help ease congestion and improve traffic flow at the airport.
The facility, being developed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited, is expected to provide about 2,030 covered parking spaces, increasing parking capacity at Terminal 3.
