Methodist Church, Catholic Bishop Conference suspend church services over coronavirus

 
The Methodist of Church Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishop Conference have suspended church services for the next four weeks following directives from the President.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo announced that all public gatherings, including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities, such as services in churches and mosques, are to be suspended for the next four (4) weeks.
The President’s directive comes after health authorities Sunday afternoon announced that six cases of the disease have been recorded in the country.
A statement signed by the President for the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference Most Rev. Philip Naameh stated that the Church has also suspended all funerals and weddings for the next four weeks.
All Catholic schools have been directed to suspend all activities until  further notice.
The statement also encouraged live streaming of masses to enable the faithful receive spiritual communion.
The circular by the Methodist Church of Ghana also mentioned the suspension of Church services as well as the closure of all educational institutions of the Methodist Church until further notice.
“The issue of the novel corona virus which has become a global plague is most worrying. We believe in the power of God to end this epidemic. We, nonetheless, encourage all our health institutions to improve their services to Ghanaians in this trouble times whilst they safeguard their own safety. It is my prayer that this COVID 19 pandemic will increase our faith in God and trust him for his adding presence.
