On 23rd September 2018, Sophia Safia Sulemana, a midwife from Kunkua Health Center, Mamprugu , Northern Region conducted an emergency delivery at 3:am on an Accra-Bolgatanga bound passenger bus.

Sophia was returning to her station after a short vacation in Accra when the incident occurred. She indicated, half way through the journey, the heavily pregnant woman was in labour and could not hold her pains any longer.

She asked the driver to stop the bus, quickly sought for privacy from the passengers seated next to the pregnant woman and single handedly improvised means to save mother and child.

After a successful delivery, the young and brave midwife handed the new mum and her newly born to the West Hospital upon arrival at Tamale for  proper medical care.

Ms. Sophia Safia Sulemana was honoured by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana on Tuesday for her bravery.
