Photos: Ghanaians pay last respects to Kofi Annan  

The mortal remains of the late UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, have been laid in state at the Accra International Conference (AICC), for the general public to pay their last respects.

The Ghanaian diplomat and former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, died in Switzerland on August 18, 2018.

Former ministers of state, members of the diplomatic corps, Members of Parliament, ministers of state, members of the Council of State, members of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association, chiefs and queenmothers, the Akwamuhene and his delegation and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's delegation will also pay their last respect to Kofi Annan on Wednesday, September 12.

There will be a final burial service on Thursday; in attendance will be UN Officials, Heads of State, Diplomatic delegations and the general public. Kofi Annan will be buried on Thursday at the Military Cemetery.

Kofi Annan served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006.

He is also the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, as well as chairman of The Elders, an international organization founded by Nelson Mandela.
