The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality.
The arrests follow months of intelligence-led operations targeting a group allegedly involved in a series of armed robberies in the region.
According to the Police, the suspects attacked victims, wounded them with machetes and forced them to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), which were allegedly used to transfer money from the victims’ accounts to accounts controlled by the robbers.
The suspects have been identified as Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Idrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; and Zakaria Brigi, 21.
A sixth suspect, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52, was also linked to the syndicate but died from injuries sustained during the police operation.
The Police said preliminary investigations have linked Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman to robbery incidents at Kpenateng Junction on August 1, 2026; Kulkpara-Dapoha on June 19; Kpenateng Community on June 15 and May 23; and Piisi-Dapoha on March 27, 2026.
So far, investigations have established that approximately GH¢22,070 in cash was allegedly stolen from victims, while an additional GH¢3,274 was siphoned through their MoMo accounts.
The Police have also retrieved seven mobile phones from the suspects. The devices are being examined as investigations continue.
The Police said Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries during the operation and died upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, two other suspects allegedly connected to the syndicate remain at large.
They have been identified as Haruna, 30, said to be the gang’s armourer, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, the son of the deceased suspect.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has intensified efforts to locate and arrest the two wanted suspects.
The Command is also urging residents, particularly those in communities affected by recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the Police.
The Police have appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist investigators in locating the two suspects and preventing further criminal activities.
