The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a violent attack and alleged rioting at New Winneba in the Central Region.
The suspects have been identified as Kweku Kakraba, 52; Arko Thomas, 19; Samuel Tulasi, 19; Samuel Gyasi, 22; Emmanuel Okyere, 22; and Seth Osei, 22.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when about 300 people, allegedly armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks, stormed New Winneba Township.
The group reportedly attacked residents, shops and homes, resulting in damage to properties.
The Police said about 15 people, including one police officer, sustained injuries during the attack and were sent to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment.
Three people were also confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.
As part of efforts to aid investigations, the Police retrieved a locally manufactured single-barrel gun and an empty AAA cartridge from the scene.

Reinforcement teams from the Winneba Divisional Headquarters, Agona Swedru Division and Mankessim Division, together with the Inspector-General of Police’s special team, were deployed to the area.
Two armoured vehicles from the Police National Headquarters were also deployed to strengthen security.
Police intensify security
The Police have since mounted six snap-check points in the area and intensified day and night patrols to prevent further escalation.
Personnel from the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate (PID) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have also been deployed to monitor the situation.
The Police said the area is currently calm and the situation is under control.The six suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
