Galamsey : Stop arresting innocent Ghanaians- Kyiri Abosom to Akufo- Addo

Founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Dr. Christian Kwabena Andrew also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has asked President Nana Addo to stop arresting innocent Ghanaians  in the so-called fight against illegal mining.

According to him, the President is just pretending to protect our water bodies but he turns around allocating the seized concessions and equipment to his party supporters and some top government officials so they can fund the party.

Rev. Dr. Christian Kwabena Andrew made the claims when the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) launched its 2020 manifesto at the Ordorgonor Senior high School in Accra.

President Nana Addo Darkwa Akufo-Addo in March 2017, established the inter-ministerial committee on illegal mining to sanitize and curb the menace of illegal mining.

The President, believed that constant and effective monitoring and reporting of anti-galamsey activities would ensure that the right things were done at all times adding, “This new phase will demonstrate our resilience and commitment to ensuring that our water bodies, land and forests with their biodiversity, are not destroyed”.

But Mr. Andrew said, his party when elected shall legalize  and regulate galamsey, paving way for any Ghanaian who wish to venture into the business.

“Galamsey, they say galamsey is illegal so they are chasing and arresting you… they are lying. Nana Addo wants to chase innocent Ghanaian Galamseyers from site and allocate the concessions to his party members,” he charged.

He said, the government of Ghana Union Movement shall provide Galamseyers with the needed measures and support  so their activities won’t affect the water bodies adding, government shall demand some incentives from them (Galamseyer) to assist government reclaim  the lands with planting of trees.

“Ghana Union Movement when voted into power shall protect our water bodies so we don’t destroy nature”.

He said, the President Nana Addo has failed in the fight against illegal mining because the wrong method was used.
