President John Dramani Mahama has held a meeting with Open Society Foundations (OSF) Chairman and Founder Alex Soros in New York as part of his engagements on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting, held on Sunday, September 20, focused on potential areas of partnership, particularly support for the integration efforts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Alex Soros, an investor and philanthropist, has previously engaged with President Mahama.
His organisation is exploring opportunities to collaborate with ECOWAS and support initiatives aimed at strengthening regional integration.
The meeting also preceded a planned presidential roundtable being coordinated by the Open Society Foundations.
The roundtable is expected to bring President Mahama together with a select group of presidents and chief executive officers of major global foundations.
Participants are expected to include representatives from the Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations, Hewlett Packard, Hilton, Rockefeller Foundation, Humanity United, Anglo American, Chandler and UBS Optimus, among others.
President Mahama’s engagements form part of his activities in New York ahead of the 81st UN General Assembly, where global leaders are expected to discuss key international and development issues.
