Super Delegates Congress bogus; waste of money – Hopeson Adorye

Super Delegates Congress

Former Parliamentary Candidate for Kpone Katamanso on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Hopeson Adorye has described the Party’s Super Delegates Congress as bogus and a waste of time and resources.

According to him, the party will waste a lot of money on the said congress as well as the main congress, saying that the money that would be spent at the Super Delegates Congress could be used for the main campaign of the party.

He said this after the Former Trade Minister, Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen filed his nominations to enter the Flagbearership race of the party on Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Party’s Headquarters.

Mr Hopeson Adorye, who is a member of the campaign team for Alan Kyerematen noted that due to the ban on drumming and noise making, his candidate did not want a large crowd to follow him to file his nominations.

He admitted that the filing was successful, pending the upcoming congress.

The NPP set November 4, 2023, as the date for its presidential primaries to select a flagbearer for the general election in 2024.

The party’s parliamentary primaries will be held on February 24, 2024 and nominations will be accepted between December 20, 2023, and January 4, 2024.

Already, about 11 delegates have picked their forms to contest for the flagbearer position of the party.

The party is therefore to hold a Super Delegates Congress on August 26 to elect five out of the 11 Presidential aspirants who will then go into the main congress for a candidate to be elected to lead the party.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s current Affairs programme, ‘The Agenda’ with Nana Yaw Fianko, Mr Hopeson Adorye said if 100 people want to contest, they should be allowed to contest for the position.

He said he will personally sponsor an amendment to quash the Super Delegates Congress, saying that the amount spent on it could be more than 200,000.

“That clause we put in the constitution is bogus for me. In the next congress, I will sponsor an amendment to quash that thing we have put there. It is a waste of resources. The money that we would use to organise the super delegates congress, we would have been able to use for everything and we will spend it for once. The money that we will use for the second one, we could use it for the main campaign, so it is bogus,” he said.

Mr Hopeson Adorye added,”If 100 people want to contest, they should be allowed to contest, let us do the election once and for all.”

He, therefore, called on his fellow party members to take this into consideration in the next elections.
