UPSA: Two female students sacked for practising ‘lesbobo’

The management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has sacked two female students from their hostel after they were caught practicing lesbianism.

The management of the University, in a notice to the students of UPSA, said the act is against the university’s rules.

 “Desist from sexual misconduct and observe all other rules and regulations in the Hostel as well as the Student Handbook. Any student caught infringing any of the regulations will not be spared.

“Engaging in acts of lesbianism is contrary to Section 1.28.11(g) of the Student Handbook of the University of Professional Studies, Accra; 2018 and Schedule G 8.3 (23) of the Statute of the University”

“They have since been dismissed from UPSA Hostel awaiting further sanctions from Management,” excerpts of the notice read.

This development comes at time that the debate for the passage of the Promotion Of Proper Human Sexual Rights And Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021’ has started in Parliament.

The ‘Promotion Of Proper Human Sexual Rights And Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021’,also called the gay bill which is yet to be considered by parliament, seeks to unequivocally criminalize LGBTQI+ activities.

According to the anti gay bill, people of the same sex who engage in sexual intercourse are “liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than seven hundred and fifty penalty units and not more than five thousand penalty units, or to a term of imprisonment of not less than three years and not more than five years or both.”

The anti gay bill also proposes that a person who, by use of media, technological platform, technological account or any other means, produces, procures, markets, broadcasts, disseminates, publishes or distributes a material for purposes of promoting an activity prohibited under the Bill, or a person uses an electronic device, the Internet service, a film, or any other device capable of electronic storage or transmission to produce, procure, market, broadcast, disseminate, publishes or distribute a material for purposes of promoting an activity prohibited under the Bill, commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than ten years.
