The Deputy Media Relations Officer of The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Zeinab Alhassan, says they do not manage or conduct the financial operations of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), as she rejects claims that GoldBod was responsible for losses attributed to the BoG.
According to her, despite supplying gold that contributes to the country’s reserves, the two institutions have separate mandates, financial operations and records.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie Flagship, hosted by Nana Yaw Fianko, she said GoldBod’s role in purchasing gold for the country’s reserves should not be mistaken for managing the central bank’s reserves.
“We are in our own lane. We don’t do the operations for Bank of Ghana,” she said.
Ms Alhassan explained that GoldBod began operations in 2025 and inherited the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP), which was initially signed by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
She said the programme was later transitioned to the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP) as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s gold reserves.
According to her, any figures cited by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) must first be linked to the correct institution.
“The question is, which agency is the IMF talking about? It is the Bank of Ghana, not GoldBod,” she said.

Ms Alhassan said GoldBod has published its financial statements and challenged critics to examine the records before attributing losses to the institution.
She added that GoldBod’s operations had helped formalise the domestic gold trade and reduce the smuggling of gold.
She said although GoldBod works closely with the Bank of Ghana, the central bank maintains its own financial operations and records.
