The Western Region has begun a seven-day fumigation and disinfection exercise in flood-affected communities to prevent possible outbreaks of diseases.

The exercise, being carried out by Zoomlion Ghana Limited as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, in collaboration with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), will cover affected areas across the region.

Western Regional Manager of Zoomlion, Patrick Arkoful, said the exercise would focus on major drains and other areas affected by the floods. He explained that stagnant water, waste and other contaminants left behind by the floods could pose serious health risks if not properly managed.

The Western Regional Environmental Health Analyst, Benjamin Baah, urged Ghanaians to learn from the recent floods and take sanitation more seriously. He expressed concern about the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and called on residents to dispose of waste at designated sites.

Mr Baah commended Zoomlion for supporting the exercise and stressed that keeping communities clean was a shared responsibility between the government and citizens.

The Assembly Member for the Cassava Farm Electoral Area, Abraham Rex Kutubebi, described the exercise as timely and welcomed the intervention. He called for stronger efforts to protect the environment and prevent future disasters.
