Wontumi’s Legal Troubles Won’t Stop His Leadership Bid – Camp Replies NDC’s Rosemond Obeng

Wontumi’s Legal Troubles

The Communication Directorate of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has strongly dismissed claims that his ongoing legal troubles could derail his political ambitions, insisting that the outspoken party stalwart remains focused on strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

This follows comments reportedly made by Presidential Staffer and NDC communicator, Rosemond Obeng, concerning Chairman Wontumi’s suitability for leadership amid his legal challenges.

In a sharp response, the Communication Directorate of Chairman Wontumi described suggestions that his legal battles disqualify him from leadership as misplaced and politically motivated. According to the Directorate, the legal challenges confronting Chairman Wontumi rather demonstrate the level of political resistance faced by influential and fearless political actors within Ghana’s democratic environment.

“The Communication Directorate wishes to state emphatically that Chairman Wontumi’s legal battles do not disqualify him from leadership. Rather, they reveal the intensity of political resistance against influential and fearless political actors in Ghana’s democratic space,” the statement stressed.

The camp further maintained that Chairman Wontumi remains unwavering in his commitment to reorganizing and strengthening the NPP for electoral victory in 2028. It added that despite criticisms and legal challenges, Chairman Wontumi remains determined to work tirelessly toward ensuring that Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next President of the Republic of Ghana.

The statement also urged party supporters to remain confident in Chairman Wontumi’s leadership, insisting that no political pressure or legal battle would distract him from his mission to rebuild and reposition the NPP for future success.
