Television presenter Akua Oteng Amponsah put the Deputy Minister for Transport under intense scrutiny during a live interview on Bullet TV’s Morning Target, questioning the government’s claims about improving Ghana’s public transport system.
During the interview, Akua Oteng Amponsah challenged the Deputy Minister over buses the government says have been brought into the country to ease transportation difficulties. She questioned why many commuters are yet to see or benefit from the buses despite repeated public announcements.
The presenter expressed concern over the continued struggles faced by passengers, including overcrowding, long waiting times and the high cost of transportation. She argued that many Ghanaians are finding it difficult to appreciate government efforts because they have not experienced any noticeable improvement in the transport sector.
Drawing a relatable comparison, Akua Oteng Amponsah said that just as a mother cannot expect praise from her children if she fails to care for them properly, a government should not expect commendation from citizens if promised services are not visible or effective.
“If you don’t take good care of your children as a mother, you cannot expect them to praise you,” she remarked, using the analogy to stress the importance of delivering tangible results rather than making promises.
Her comments sparked discussion among viewers, with many taking to social media to debate the state of public transportation in Ghana and the government’s efforts to improve the sector. While some supported her tough questioning, others argued that infrastructure projects take time before their impact is felt nationwide.
