The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has criticised the health sector allocations in the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, saying the budget lacks new interventions to address challenges facing the sector.
Committee member and Akyem Oda Member of Parliament Alexander Akwasi Acquah says the review failed to provide additional funding or clear measures to advance key health infrastructure projects, including Agenda 111.
Speaking after Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament, Alexander Akwasi Acquah said the budget review introduced little that was new for the health sector.
According to him, the statement did not outline concrete measures to accelerate stalled health infrastructure projects, particularly the Agenda 111 hospital programme.
“We thought that the mid-year review was going to make provision for working on those facilities, but we had nothing. There is no drive, there is nothing in it,” Mr. Acquah said.
The member of parliament questioned the government’s ability to fulfil its commitment to the Agenda 111 project, citing the absence of additional funding in the mid-year review.
“If government promised 10 Agenda 111 hospitals at the beginning of the year in the main budget and hasn’t been able to deliver, how do we trust that this is going to be done… especially when the minister didn’t make any provision in the review?” he stated.
Mr. Acquah said expanding access to quality healthcare requires sustained investment in health infrastructure and called on the government to prioritise the completion of ongoing health projects.
His comments come amid continued public and parliamentary discussions over funding for the Agenda 111 programme, which was launched to improve access to healthcare through the construction of hospitals across the country.
