The Ministry of Health has constituted a committee to investigate the recent unrest at the Nursing Training College in Techiman-Krobo, Bono East Region.
In a press statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, the Ministry said the committee has been tasked with establishing the facts surrounding the disturbances and recommending appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence.
The seven-member committee will be chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong, Deputy Registrar of the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority and former Dean of the School of Nursing at the University for Development Studies (UDS).
Other members include Mr. Ahmed Bennett Mumuni, Human Resource Manager of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council; Nana Asa Akon Panin of Techiman-Krobohene; Mrs. Hephzebah Gyimah, Deputy Director of Operations and representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC); Mrs. Isha Sena Idrisu, Secretary to the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions; Nashiru-Deen Akparibo, President of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA); and Dr. Inua Yussuf Issahaku, Legal Director of the Ministry of Health.
According to the Ministry, the committee will investigate the circumstances that led to the unrest, review whether existing policies, codes of conduct and administrative procedures were adhered to, and make recommendations to the Minister for Health for appropriate action.
The committee is also expected to assess any administrative lapses that may have contributed to the incident and propose measures to strengthen governance and discipline within the institution.
The Ministry has directed the committee to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister for Health on or before August 11, 2026.
The move follows recent disturbances at the Nursing Training College, Techiman-Krobo, which led to the temporary closure of the institution.
The statement was signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Tony Goodman, who reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring accountability, maintaining discipline in health training institutions, and safeguarding a conducive learning environment for students.
