The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says firefighters have successfully extinguished a major warehouse fire that broke out at the Tema Industrial Area in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to the Service, the industrial fire involved a takeaway warehouse and a rubber warehouse and factory. The blaze reportedly started around 12:40 a.m.
Four fire tenders from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway and Free Zones fire stations were deployed to the scene to bring the fire under control.
The GNFS said the fire has now been extinguished, with firefighters remaining at the scene to carry out salvage and overhaul operations to prevent any possible re-ignition.
The operation, however, was not without casualties. The Fire Service disclosed that some firefighters sustained injuries while battling the blaze.
One firefighter was injured after a section of a wall collapsed on him and is currently receiving treatment at the Tema General Hospital.
The Service has not yet disclosed the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the affected warehouses and factory.
It described the incident as a commercial fire at the Tema Industrial Area and said further details will be provided as investigations continue.
