Thirty-seven inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison have sat for the Teacher Licensure Examination as part of efforts by the Ghana Prisons Service to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates through education.
The inmates, who have completed their degree programmes, took the examination at the prison facility on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The examination was conducted under strict supervision by two external invigilators, with support from officers of the Ghana Prisons Service.
According to the Ghana Prisons Service, the initiative forms part of its commitment to using education as a key tool for the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
The Service said providing inmates with access to education and professional qualifications gives them an opportunity to acquire skills that can improve their prospects of leading responsible and productive lives after their release.
The participation of the 37 inmates in the Teacher Licensure Examination is also seen as a significant milestone in their rehabilitation journey, as they work towards using education to transform their lives and contribute positively to society.
The initiative underscores the role of education in supporting inmates to develop skills and qualifications that can help them pursue meaningful opportunities after serving their sentences.
