Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has warned members and communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for what he describes as an aggressive misinformation and disinformation campaign by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the NDC government is likely to use “fake news and manufactured distractions” to divert public attention from what he considers its failures and unfulfilled promises.
In a post on Facebook on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the strategy would be aimed at shifting attention away from “important national issues” on which he claims the government has failed to deliver.
He alleged that the approach was not new, arguing that the NDC had used similar tactics while in opposition.
“Going into the 2028 elections, one strategy the NDC Government is likely to use aggressively, in its desperation to hold on to power, is misinformation and disinformation,” he stated.
Mr Afenyo-Markin urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and critically assess information presented to them, particularly as the country moves closer to the next elections.
He also tasked NPP members, officers and communicators with taking greater responsibility in identifying and responding to what he described as false propaganda.
He called on the party’s communicators to verify information, expose what they consider false claims and avoid allowing political distractions to dominate the party’s agenda.
The former Majority Leader further urged the NPP to keep its attention on what he described as the government’s “broken promises” and the everyday challenges confronting Ghanaians.
He also called on party members to promote the vision of former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.
“Expose the lies. Focus on the issues. Promote the vision. Win 2028,” Mr Afenyo-Markin concluded.
