Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has directed the establishment of a Technical Working Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The move follows a call by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for greater transparency, accountability and an ultimate review of the system used to place students into senior high schools.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Ministry of Education said it welcomes the call and is committed to improving the placement process to ensure fairness for all qualified students.
The Ministry maintained that the CSSPS is fundamentally a merit-based system, with merit taking precedence over protocol in the placement of qualified candidates.
It said the system is designed to ensure that placement decisions are guided by established criteria and that every qualified student is treated fairly within the approved placement framework.
“Following the conclusion of the current placement exercise, the Ministry will establish a Technical Working Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the placement process,” the statement said.
The committee will examine the various components of the CSSPS and identify areas that require improvement.
It will also make recommendations to strengthen transparency and accountability and ensure that the placement system remains credible, efficient, fair and responsive to the needs of students, parents and schools.
Ministry reiterates free placement
The Ministry also reiterated that placement through the CSSPS is free, stressing that no parent or candidate is required to pay money to secure a placement or have an existing placement changed.
It urged parents and guardians who have credible evidence of officials of the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, CSSPS Secretariat, Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training, or any third party demanding money in connection with school placement to report the matter to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
The Ministry assured that the identity of individuals who report such cases would be protected.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the CSSPS, saying merit, fairness and transparency would remain at the heart of the school placement process.
