The Ghana Police Service says investigations into the TikTok account “Ghana Jollof” have uncovered an alleged network involved in the production, financing and distribution of online content considered false, offensive and capable of causing fear and alarm.
Speaking on the development, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service said Police intelligence had identified Barbara Asantewa Kodua, believed to be residing in the United Kingdom, as the person behind the Ghana Jollof account.
According to her, Kodua had allegedly used the social media platform over a period of time to produce and publish videos containing offensive and defamatory statements.
She cited as one of the videos under investigation a claim allegedly made by Kodua that there had been a near attack at the Jubilee House, describing the claim as false.
Lydia Donkor further disclosed that investigations had identified Nurse Salomey Owiti Baffoe, a resident of Techiman, as an individual allegedly aiding and abetting Kodua in the dissemination of the videos.
She said investigations had established that Baffoe allegedly helped circulate content produced by Kodua by recruiting other individuals to redistribute and share the materials across various social media platforms.
According to her, forensic examination of Baffoe’s mobile phone and its contents allegedly established that the two women were friends.
Investigators also retrieved audio and video files, phone records and other forensic material which the Police say will form part of the evidence to be presented in court.
She further alleged that mobile money transaction records point to financial arrangements involving the two women.
She said Barbara Asantewa Kodua allegedly remitted funds from the United Kingdom to Baffoe in Ghana in support of the activities.
