The General Secretary of the Congress of African Journalists, Mr William Oloo Janak, has questioned why Togo and other neighbouring countries continue to rely on France for information dissemination when Ghana’s state broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has the capacity to serve the sub-region.
“Why should Togo and Ghana’s other neighbours depend on France for information when GBC has the resources?” Mr Janak asked.
He argued that strengthening GBC’s regional outreach would promote African-owned narratives, enhance media independence, and reduce dependence on foreign information sources.
Mr Janak’s remarks have renewed discussions on media sovereignty and the need for African countries to invest in strong public broadcasting institutions capable of serving both national and regional audiences.
