The Director of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) legal team, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, has likened the speech delivered by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to a coup d’état.
This comes after Bawumia outlined his vision for the country in his national address at the UPSA auditorium on February 7. Dr. Bawumia.
In his address, the NPP flagbearer said he would reverse some policies the Akufo-Addo administration put in place.
Dr Bawumia noted that he will abolish tax on electronic financial transaction, e-levy, if given the nod as President of Ghana in December 7.
He also added that that his bid for a Digital and Cashless Ghana will be significantly boosted if e-levy is abolished.
“To move towards a cashless economy, however, we have to encourage the population to use electronic channels payment. To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will therefore, be abolished,” he declared.
He also revealed that emission levy and bet tax introduced by his government will be reversed.
Reacting to the speech on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with Host Nana Yaw Fianko, Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe said the speech delivered by the Vice President is like a coup d’état against his boss citing the reversal of policies by the Akufo-Addo administration as reasons.
“Look If you read the speech, it is like a coup d’état against his boss. Do you know that in the next 100 years only 25 Ghanaians out of the 30 million can become President? So if God bless you to be a vice president, it is the greatest privilege you can have… What has changed? Why is Bawumia running away? He is running away because he is not proud of his works, he is running away because he is a dishonest person. He is running away because he has no character, he has no credibility.”
“Today Bawumia is telling us that if we vote for him, he will abolish E-levy. Ghanaians should not entertain this character called Bawumia, he is even more dangerous than Akufo-Addo,” Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe added.
