The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS) has condemned the alleged defilement of a student at the school and called for a full, transparent and expedited investigation into the incident.
The PTA, in a statement dated Monday, August 24, 2026, said it had followed recent developments and media reports concerning the alleged sexual abuse of the student, reportedly involving two security personnel attached to the school.
The association described the allegations as “extremely disturbing” and stressed that no child entrusted to the care of BOGISS should be subjected to sexual abuse, exploitation or any form of harm.
The PTA commended the Ghana Police Service for the swift arrest of the two suspects and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for interdicting them.
It further called for the investigations to be conducted thoroughly and transparently, with the appropriate sanctions imposed on anyone found culpable under the law.
Beyond the investigation, the PTA urged the GES, Department of Social Welfare and other relevant child-protection agencies to ensure that the affected student receives the necessary counselling, medical care and protection.
According to the association, the welfare, dignity and educational future of the student must be safeguarded throughout the process, adding that any decision concerning her status at the school should be guided primarily by her best interests.
The PTA also raised concerns about aspects of media reporting on the incident, saying some accounts had allegedly gone beyond established facts and presented what it described as an unbalanced picture of the response by the school’s management and the GES hierarchy.
While acknowledging the media’s right to report on the matter and the importance of public scrutiny of child-safety issues, the PTA appealed to media houses and commentators to distinguish between confirmed facts and allegations.
It cautioned against speculation that could prejudice the ongoing investigations, further traumatise the affected student or unfairly damage the reputation of school authorities who, it said, have been responding to the matter.
The association said it would continue engaging the GES, school management and other stakeholders to obtain accurate and timely information, promising to keep parents and guardians informed through proper channels rather than unverified reports.
The PTA also sought to reassure parents and guardians that the safety and wellbeing of students remain its foremost priority.
It said it was engaging the school management and GES to review and strengthen safeguarding measures at BOGISS.
The proposed measures include tighter vetting and supervision of security and support staff, restrictions on unsupervised access to students, clearer reporting channels for students to raise concerns and periodic safety audits of the school environment.
The PTA said it would continue to hold stakeholders accountable to ensure that students learn and live in a safe and protective environment.
It also encouraged parents, guardians and students with concerns to report them promptly to school management, the PTA executive or the appropriate authorities.
