CETAG halts services in response to July salary freeze directive

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has halted all its services in response to the government’s directive to freeze their July salaries.

On July 22, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to suspend the salaries of all striking CETAG members, except for the Principals, for July 2024.

Reacting to this directive, CETAG issued a statement on Tuesday, July 23, announcing the withdrawal of all services.

The association emphasized that the directive to freeze their July salaries has been referred to their lawyers for the necessary legal actions.

“In an emergency meeting of National Council, July 23, the council members took a unanimous decision to withdraw all our services including attendance to meetings, congregation ceremonies and provision of academic counselling services as well as supervision of students in the halls of residence with immediate effect until further notice,” an excerpt of the statement read.

Meanwhile, GTEC has urged CETAG members to return to the classrooms, assuring them that their concerns are being addressed.
