Communications Ministry Denies Claims of Misuse of Public Funds

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MOCDTI) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the sector minister, Samuel Nartey George, has misused public funds.

In an official statement issued to media houses, the Ministry said it had taken notice of a document being circulated online alongside allegations that the Minister had “blown” public funds.

According to the Ministry, the document in question is only an extract from a broader official submission seeking Commitment Authorisation from the Ministry of Finance for planned activities and projects under the 2026 fiscal year.

The statement explained that the request was prepared in accordance with established public financial management and procurement procedures and based on budgetary allocations approved by Parliament.

“The request covers a range of planned projects, operational activities and programme interventions to be undertaken by the Ministry within the year under review,” the statement said.

The Ministry further clarified that the commitment authorisation request has not yet received approval from the Ministry of Finance and, therefore, no funds have been released, disbursed, or spent in relation to the items referenced in the circulating document.

“It is important to emphasise that the said Commitment Authorisation request is yet to receive approval from the Ministry of Finance,” the statement noted.

MOCDTI described the allegations that public funds had already been squandered as “inaccurate, misleading and devoid of context,” urging the public to disregard the claims.

The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to public financial management regulations in the execution of its mandate.
The Ministry’s Public Relations Directorate signed the statement.
