COVID-19: Set up more testing centers across the country-Socialist Forum to gov't

The Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) has called on government to

set up more testing centers across the country and expand health facilities in addition to providing adequate PPE’s to health personnel.
That, the SFG believes will help Ghana win the battle against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In a press statement prior to the commemoration of the May Day, which comes off on Friday, May 1st 2020, the SFG noted that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana has suspended mass gathering to celebrate May Day as a direct result of the COVlD-19 pandemic.

“We endorse the decision of the TUC as a pragmatic move to prevent the spread of COVlD-19 amongst the working people. The SFG takes cognizance of the fact that it shares a common position with the TUC on how to combat COVlD-19. Both organizations called for a lockdown coupled with mass random testing as a way out of the pandemic,” the SFG stated.
It added that,”SFG believes that the fight against COVlD-19 requires the total mobilization of all sections of the Ghanaian society to carry out relief operations for the working people and the vulnerable and to intensify public education. We recommended the setting up of more testing centers across the country and the expansion of health facilities in addition to providing adequate PPE’s to health personnel.”
The SFG has also called on government to review the Industrial Relations Act immediately to make solidarity strikes legal within the framework of enhancing the rights of workers in Ghana.

“In a welcome address to the African Trade Unions meeting in Accra on November 5, 1959 Osagyefo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah stated that ” …… political freedom and the rights of workers are indivisible” The SFG endorses this position. To this end, we call for the immediate review of the Industrial Relations Act to make solidarity strikes legal within the framework of enhancing the rights of workers in Ghana,” SFG stated.

Below is a statement:
On the occasion of May Day, the Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG) salutes the working people of the world for their heroic contributions to the sustenance of life and their bold confrontation with ail the manifestations of capitalism.
In Ghana, the working people continue to suffer from the imposition of the neo-liberal agenda which has led to job losses, low re-numeration, lack of access to social services and low levels of participation in national political processes.

On the occasion of May Day, we join all the working people of the world in denouncing colonialism in all its forms including the colonial occupation of Palestine, the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and West Papua.
We also unreservedly condemn the imperialist onslaught against the government and people of Venezuela and call for the unconditional lifting of the blockade imposed on Cuba by the ruling class in the USA.
Like Nkrumah we proclaim that “onty Africa can fight for its destiny. In this struggle, we shall not reject assistance and support of our friends, but we will yield to no enemy, however strong”
Long Live the Working People of the world
Long Live the Socialist Revolution.
