The founder and flagbearer of the Action People’s Party (APP), Kenneth Kwame Asamoah, says Ghanaians prefer to elect the elderly as their political leaders instead of giving the youth the chance to take over the country.

According to him, the latter has contributed to the woes of the country over the years.

Kenneth Kwame Asamoah said Ghanaians trusted the older candidates and voted for them because they feel the elderly have more wisdom to rule the nation. Unfortunately, he said the older ones have failed the people, especially President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Nana Fianko, he observed that the youth constitute about 70 percent of the population, underscoring the need for a leader who is youthful.

He was sure that when given the opportunity to serve the country, he will do better than the previous leaders.

“I am more capable, I have more capabilities than them. Ghanaians like to vote for older men because they have a perception that the elderly are better than everyone,” he said.

“One problem Ghana has is that we choose leaders based on their age; that is the problem with Africa; we look at age before we vote for a leader,” Kenneth Kwame Asamoah said. “Let someone present Former President John Mahama, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, and myself for a leadership role in an organization, and I can tell you the people will go for the older ones because people think they are the ones who have wisdom to lead us, and that is wrong,

He continued, “Leadership is not about old age; it is about who can perform, who has the ability and capability, and who can interact with the people.”

The Young Flagbearer also raised concerns that the media does not give attention to smaller parties like it does with bigger ones.

Due to that, he said, it was difficult for people to know them, unlike the bigger parties.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Kwame Asamoah was of the belief that, if given equal opportunities, the smaller parties, especially the Action People’s Party, will do better than the NDC and the NPP.

As a flagbearer who is also into business and has employed over 20 people in his businesses, he said he intends to create more jobs for the youth when he is given the chance to serve the nation.

So, he told the young people that they should join the Action People’s Party to change the story and make Ghana a better place.
