The Former Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Hawa Koomson
who appeared in Parliament for vetting as a Minister Designate for Fisheries has denied publication that she said her former ministry did not construct meaningful dams under the IDIF initiative.
According to her, she was quoted out of contest when she gave answers on the construction of community dams. She said the writer misunderstood what she really meant and that English is not a Ghanaian language,
Hawa Koomson made the statement when Okudjeto Ablakwa questioned her to give further explanations on a publication on Ghanaweb in 2019, captioned, “IDIF, We are not constructing meaningful dams”.
Answering the question, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency, said,”I have also read about it, but I must say that I was taken out of contest.”
When asked to explain further, Hawa Koomsoon said,”There was a question whether the dams we were constructing were that of the Akosombo dam, and I said no. We are constructing community earth dams, and those dams are dams constructed within the community and for sure we don’t expect big dams and as we all know, English is not language for all of us. So maybe, the way I wanted to put it was…….Well I said English is not our mother tongue, so what I really meant was not the word I used, and not to say that the dam was not a meaningful dam.”
