Manhean: Assemblyman aspirant  assures of working with GWCL to fix water problem

One major problem that residents of Manhean Electoral Area are grappling with is inaccessibility to safe water.

The issue has become worse that one ‘Kufuor Gallon’ (yellow gallon) filled with pipe-borne water is selling between Ghc3.00 and Ghc4.00.

The situation has left many residents of Manhean Electoral Area in the Ga West Municipal Assembly with no option but to resort to fetching water from the Densu River (called by the locals as Okugya) that meanders its way through the area, with its attendant contaminants.

In light of the above, Assemblymember hopeful, George Obeng, has assured that when given the mandate, he will seek the assistance of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Ga West Municipal Assembly to ensure more households are connected to the pipe-borne water from the GWCL.

In an interview with DAILY Analyst, George, who is also a journalist by profession, lamented that the water problem in Manhean and its environs was draining pockets of many families.

He explained that this was so because those in the water-selling business space sell it at high prices to residents in the electoral area.

“It is one challenge in the Manhean electoral area I have identified and which I will work with a sense of urgency to address. Water is life, and it is one essential commodity we can’t afford to joke with,” he stated.

Another priority of George, who is popularly known as Okordie, is that he will help provide streetlights in the electoral area.

This, he indicated, would help reduce crimes.

“Particularly in the evening, many of the accessible routes to homes become very dark, serving as a recipe for criminals to strike. This will be given serious attention under my tenure,” he averred.

Touching on sanitation, George said he would collaborate with the chiefs and elders in the communities that fall under Manhean electoral area to rid them of waste.

“As a media person, I will also use my good relationship with a waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, and the municipal assembly to come along and support us during clean-up exercises,” he said.

He, therefore, appealed to voters in the Manhean electoral area to give him the mandate by voting massively for him to become their assembly member.
