The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Emmanuel Fynn Reagan, has urged National Service Personnels (NSPs) to consider placements in private institutions to improve their chances of securing permanent employment after their service.
He said government institutions have limited capacity to retain service personnel after the mandatory national service period due to existing staffing constraints.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Fynn Reagan said the NSA is targeting the deployment of about 70 per cent of service personnel to private agencies as part of efforts to improve their employment prospects.
He explained that several public institutions already have limited space to absorb additional personnel after their national service.
“When you go to the few government institutions we have, there is no retention when you are done with service. The possibility of you retaining is not there, because the problem is there already too,” he said.
Mr Fynn Reagan cited the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) as examples of institutions with limited capacity to retain additional personnel.
“When you go to DVLA today, DVLA is full. COCOBOD is full. Other government institutions are very full. So we advise that they choose some private agencies, because that is where they can be absorbed. They can get the retention,” he said.
He encouraged NSPs to consider private sector organisations when selecting their preferred placements instead of focusing mainly on government institutions.
“If you want retention, if you want a future for yourself, the option is the private sector,” he added.
The NSA’s proposed approach comes amid concerns over employment opportunities for graduates after national service, with public institutions facing challenges in absorbing large numbers of personnel.
The Authority believes greater placement in private institutions could provide service personnel with more opportunities to secure permanent employment after completing their national service.
