AFCON 2023: My defenders were late in clearing danger- Richard Ofori

Osenkafo Addo, reporting from Ivory Coast

Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori has revealed that his defenders let him in down in the match against Cape Verde in the ongoing AFCON in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars goalkeeper told the media in the mixed zone area, “The ball was also far away from me and my defenders were absent at a critical moment; therefore, I decided to punch the ball wide; sadly, my defenders were not present to clear the danger.”

“It occurs during the course of a game, and we must concentrate and focus on the second game.” “That is the utmost crucial aspect,” he continued.

The Black Stars are shifting their focus to Thursday’s match against Egypt in an effort to draw lessons from the previous encounter and stage a formidable comeback in the Afcon.

“Legitimate family” can obtain copy of Mills’ autopsy report from 37 Military Hospital- Cadman Mills reacts

Brother of late President John Evans Atta-Mills, Dr. Cadman Mills, has reacted to calls for the autopsy report of the former president.

This comes after Nana Enyimfua III, representing the family, during a visit to the president in Accra on Saturday renewed the request for the autopsy report of the late president.

Nana Enyimfua III who expressed concern over the unknown cause of his death, emphasized the importance of obtaining the report for closure and historical records.

“Our biggest problem as a family is that ever since I was enstooled as queenmother, I have not seen any autopsy report in the family. That is the biggest problem I have with the family because if someone asks me what killed him I won’t know if the doctor said he broke his arm or his neck or drunk something”

“So we plead with you and the government that the family needs the autopsy report so that in future when I am no more queen mother posterity will learn from it because no child from the family knows what killed the late former president not to talk about me the queen mother in the family. So I plead with you on behalf of the family, before you leave office let us get the autopsy report,” he added.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who agreed that the request is a legitimate demand added that he will have to find how to proceed on it.

“I’ll have to find out how to proceed on that, but it’s a legitimate demand,” the president said after the family called on him at Jubilee House. If the family wants to have [the autopsy report] of someone who died in those circumstances, it’s a legitimate demand”,

But reacting to the development in a post on X,  the brother of the deceased, Dr. Cadman Mills revealed that an Autopsy was performed on the late President when he passed at 37 Military Hospital with a family representative present.

He added that the legitimate family can obtain a copy from the 37 Military Hospital to do with as it pleases.

“VERY STALE NEWS!!! And exasperating! President Mills died. An Autopsy was performed at 37 Military Hospital. A “Family Representative” was present at autopsy, as required by law. The (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from “37” to do with as it pleases. Next Subject,” Dr. Cadman Mills fumed.

Kwame Koduah Atuahene writes: Political Campaigns and Road Safety

Dear friends in active politics,

The last 23 months have seen some marginal and consistent declines in our Road Traffic Crashes, Injuries and Deaths (CIDs) data. It is unprecedented and important we work together to sustain the positive gains.

However, available data from the last 30 years confirms a trend of increased CIDs in election years partly due to increased travels for campaigns and it’s associated risks.

The quality of our road network have seen some improvements prompting some drivers to embrace excessive speeds and other unsafe choices,

While you travel around to campaign for votes, spare a moment to reflect on the road transport system and how to make it better.

In the interim observe the following:

  1. Sign up your drivers to Refresher Training. They need to build their capacity and orientation for the unusual terrain ahead.
  2. Develop a journey plan for the campaign and avoid hurriedly planned travels. They are considered high risk.
  3. Ensure that your drivers take enough rest within the day and where possible, deploy two drivers for trips in excess of 8 hours or 500km.
  4. Ensure daily inspection of your vehicles and a regular maintenance programme.
  5. Advise the campaign office or team to appoint a Safety or Transport Officer to keep your travels safe.

I wish you all a successful campaign. Travel safely and #StayAlive

Ukraine says it shot down Russian A-50 spy plane

Ukraine’s military says it has shot down a Russian military spy plane over the Sea of Azov, in what analysts say would be a blow to Moscow’s air power.

Army chief Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi said the air force had “destroyed” an A-50 long range radar detection aircraft, and an Il-22 air control centre.

The A-50 detects air defences and coordinates targets for Russian jets.

Ukraine has struggled to make significant recent advances against Russian forces in the south-east.

Russian officials said they had “no information” about the attacks, but prominent pro-war Russian commentators have said the loss of an A-50 would be significant.

One popular military channel, Rybar, said that – if Ukraine’s information about the Russian losses was confirmed – it would be “another black day for the Russian air force”.

Another channel said the Il-22 command centre was hit by Russian “friendly fire”.

Gen Zaluzhnyi said on Telegram that Ukraine’s air force had “excellently planned and conducted” an operation in the Azov region, south-east of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk commented on the downing of the aircraft in a Telegram post, but did not provide details.

Justin Bronk, an air war specialist from the defence think tank Rusi, told the BBC that if confirmed the loss of an A-50 would be a “highly operationally significant and embarrassing loss” for Russia’s air force.

He described the A-50 as a “key command, control and surveillance platform” that provides Russian aircraft and surface-to-air missile systems with “long range early warning and target information about Ukrainian low-flying aircraft”.

He added that there were “only a small number” of these aircraft within the Russian air force, and “even fewer trained mission crews, meaning that the loss of one would be a major blow”.

If confirmed, he said it would “be a very long-range engagement” for Ukrainian Patriot air defence missiles, which would stretch “the theoretical capabilities of the weapon to their limit”.

Frank Gardner, the BBC’s security correspondent, said the apparent development was a “small bit of good news for Ukraine amid an awful lot of bad news”.

He said the situation generally is “not looking good for Ukraine”, as it deals with shortages of ammunition, low morale among its troops and continued attacks by Russia on its infrastructure.

Opinion: Bekwai NPP Primaries: Desperate COP Alex Mensah on a dangerous mission

Author: Yaw Columbus Amoabeng

We find ourselves in the early days of an electioneering year this 2024. Already, characteristic of every election year, reckless and unfounded allegations have been activated in the highest dimension.

This time around by an embittered and aggrieved former police capo who should know better.

The impending NPP Primaries with a focus on events heating up in the Bekwai Constituency have caught attention.

In all, four candidates have been approved to contest the primaries in the Bekwai constituency. They include Ralph Poku-Adusei, Kingsley Opoku Agyemang, COP George Alex Mensah (Rtd), and Henry Opoku Ware.

This is a very heated contest to find the replacement of one of the longest-serving members of Parliament Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu (Joe Wise).

It also appears from Bekwai grounds that, COP Alex Mensah will lose miserably and hence; COP Alex Mensah’s rantings to court voter sympathy from NPP Bekwai delegates.

From all pointers, COP George Alex Mensah, a well-known lead conspirer in the infamous Dampare leaked tape is on a reckless, shameless and monstrous mission to save his face.

Interestingly he has alleged that the Vice President and Presidential candidate of the NPP Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo-Dampare, have sent an unknown person to Bekwai to pay delegates to vote against him in the upcoming parliamentary primaries on 27 January 2024.

COP Alex Mensah (Rtd) made the allegations in an interview on Kessben TV/Radio’s “Amansan Ntie” show hosted by Akuoko Kwarteng on Friday, 12 January 2024.

As if his display of outbursts is not enough and with a clear defeat staring in his face, he is bent on invoking his boiling and inconsolable wrath on highly noble innocent persons in high positions of the NPP Government.

COP Alex Mensah’s allegations smack of a barbarous disposition inspired by nothing short of desperate propaganda and smear campaigns.

It is therefore preposterous for COP Alex Mensah to even contemplate treading the same old, worn-out path of cluelessness under the guise of winning a parliamentary election.

“Help Us Get Atta-Mills’ Autopsy Report” – Mills’ Family Begs Akufo-Addo

The family of Ekumfi Otuam and Ekumfi Asaman, have launched yet another sharp inquest into the unclear circumstances that led to the mysterious death of the late former President, Professor John Evans Atta-Mills.

Speaking upon a visit to President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House today, Kyidomhemaa of Ekumfi Traditional Council and Queenmother of the Odomna Family of Ekumfi Otuam and Asaman, Nanahemaa Enyimfuaa III, in the company of the Head of the Odomna Family from which the late President hails, Abusuapanin Kobina Biney, said, it remains a key worry of the entire maternal family of the Late President that after 10years since the venerable Professor passed, no member of the family can mention what happened to him because none of them has sighted his autopsy report.

According to her, “it is a constant headache, that no member of the family can confidently answer the simple question of how and why the late President died and indeed, what actually killed him.”

“Till date we as family are not able to tell if the doctor had said, he broke an arm, his neck or what specific medical defect and circumstances caused his death. I therefore plead with you Mr. President, on behalf of my stool and on behalf of the entire family to assist us get the autopsy report of President Mills, so that we can amply explain to the family and to our generations born and unborn, what killed President Mills and lay to rest the hazy circumstances surrounding his death.”

The family was grateful to President Akufo-Addo, for restoring the dignity of the Asomdwee Park, where the former President is buried.

“The extent of neglect by those who took over from Prof Mills was so bad that Asomdwee Park became the prime location for petty drug peddlers and lunatics”, the Head of Clan, Abusuapanin Kobina Biney, said.

They appealed for jobs for the youth of the area and the readiness of the traditional authorities of the area to make land available for an edifice at Ekumfi Otuam in honour of their departed relative and former President of the Republic.

Cyber Security Authority to bar service providers without license from operating in Ghana from Jan.1

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has warned that effective January 1, 2024, Cybersecurity Service Providers (CSPs), Cybersecurity Establishments (CEs), and Cybersecurity Professionals (CPs) without license or accreditation will be barred from operating in Ghana.

This follows the December 31, 2023, deadline issued by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) to CSPs, CEs, and CPs to obtain a licence or accreditation to operate lawfully in the county.

A statement signed by the Director-General of CSA, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, noted that the Authority will fully enforce the provisions of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) regarding its mandate to regulate CSPs, CPs and CEs.

CSA explained that accordingly, the CSPs, CEs and CPs who offer cybersecurity services without a licence or accreditation granted by the Authority, do so in contravention of Act 1038 and will face the full rigors of the Law including criminal prosecutions and administrative penalties where applicable.

“Institutions and individuals are consequently advised to engage only licensed CSPs and accredited CEs and CPs,” CSA stated.

To ascertain whether an entity or individual has been granted a licence or accreditation, CSA explained that the certificate number of the entity or individual can be authenticated online at https://www.csa.gov.gh/licence.

The CSA added, “The Authority may also be contacted via email: [email protected] or Telephone: 0531140408.”

Ghana becomes the first country in Africa and second globally, after Singapore to have taken such a bold and giant step to develop the cybersecurity industry in this regard.

 *Background*

The Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), came into force in December 2020 to regulate cybersecurity activities and promote the development of cybersecurity in Ghana.

The Act thus mandates the Authority to regulate cybersecurity entities, pursuant to sections 4(k), 49, 50, 51, 57 and 59.

The regulatory regime will among other things ensure:

* A streamlined mechanism for ensuring that CSPs, CEs and CPs offer their services in accordance with approved standards and procedures in line with domestic requirements and international best practice;

* A Greater assurance of cybersecurity and safety to consumers;

* An improved and maintained standard that offers baseline protection to Ghana’s digital ecosystem and;

* That national security concerns are addressed.

The CSA and the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) are also collaborating to ensure that public sector entities procuring cybersecurity services do so in accordance with the Guidelines developed pursuant to Act 1038.

 *Stakeholder Engagements*

Since October 2022, the CSA has been engaging all relevant stakeholders including cybersecurity service providers, establishments and professionals on the regulatory regime by deploying different communication strategies. There have been more than 30 different industry engagements, leading to the introduction and implementation of the licensing and accreditation regime provided in the Cybersecurity Act, 2020. The Authority further set up dedicated desks to receive all enquiries and to provide prompt feedback on the exercise to stakeholders. As part of efforts to continuously engage and collaborate with the accredited and licensed cybersecurity professionals and institutions, the CSA is compiling a national register of licensed and accredited Cybersecurity Service Providers, Cybersecurity Establishments and Cybersecurity Professionals pursuant to section 4(t) of Act 1038 and will see to the establishment of the Industry Forum pursuant to section 81 of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 (Act 1038).
