Amewu slams Mahama over “cheap” Galamsey comments – Amewu

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu has described the galamsey comments made by the former President, John Dramani Mahama, as untrue adding that he is only trying to score cheap political points.

Mr. Mahama addressing NDC supporters Saturday  during the party’s Unity Walk in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, took the NPP  government to the cleaners for encouraging soldiers to shoot-to-kill recalcitrant ‘galamseyers’ in its fight against ‘Galamsey’.

Responding to Mr. Mahama’s comment in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Monday, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources , John Peter Amewu explained that Mahama’s comments is geared towards discrediting the government’s fight against illegal mining in order to win power in 2020 elections.

According to him, the former President is only using politics at the expense of human lives by disregarding the effects of illegal mining on the environment.

“Mahama has been President in Ghana, what alternative measures did he put in place for the jobless galamseyers during his tenure. I have lost the respect I had for him. I dare him to produce a single page-document on small-scale mining”, he said.

He asked the former President John Dramani Mahama to refrain from using ‘galamseyers’ against the Akufo-Addo’s government.
