SONA: Minority MPs should pack out if they don't want to see the Speaker-NPP Chair

The Chairman for New Juaben North Constituency, NPP,  Mr Kwadwo Agyeman Boateng has challenged the Minority in Parliament to pack out of the House if they do not want to see the face of the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Aaron Mike Oquaye.
His suggestions follows the Minority’s boycott of the recent SONA and also maintaining tight lipped when parliament commenced debate on the 2020 SONA.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Morning Agenda, a segment on Ghana Nie, hosted by Bismark Brown, Mr Boateng who could not agree with minority on their actions towards the SONA said,”If it is the speaker you do not want to see his face then pack your things and move from the house.”
He described the minority’s actions towards SONA as disrespectful and irresponsible, telling the public that the minority were not a better alternative for ruling the country due to their actions.
“The NDC did not do well. Their boycott was to divert attention and the media also took it up. How many media houses has been able to go through the 15 pages of the President’s speech. It is a bad behaviour and the people must know the NDC is not the alternative,” he added.
Meanwhile, a Former Communications Officer of the NDC, Solomon Nkansah who justified the actions of the minority concerning the SONA said,”Minority chose to walk out so that Nana can boldly say what he wanted to say. Just when minority walked out ‘Grandpa’ had cold.”
“We were helping him. If you see the active NDC parliamentarians, their average age will be around 45 years and so they are very youthful. If they said they were going to make noise in the room, maybe ‘Granpa’ would have gotten pressure. So Minority decided to leave him there, even that he had cold,” he continued.
He further expressed hope that with the actions of the minority concerning the recent SONA, the President will change his approach towards some national issues moving forward.
“With reasons for the walk out, we are expecting to see change in his approach to issues. The NPP has walked out severally including VAT, they boycott it when we sent it to government after staging a demonstration but today, their people have benefited from GETFund scholarship,” he said.
He also opined that,” The NPP’s behave as if they only have heredity rights to national assets whiles the rest of Ghanaians do not have rights.”
However, he was also of the view that minority after boycotting the SONA should have participated when parliament commenced debate on the SONA.
“Minority has boycott the SONA, when you do it again Ghanaians would think we are overdoing things. They should have just participated in the debate. You realise that if you alone speak about your issue and no one comments you will not feel motivated and encouraged. Those who were inside quickly filled the seats so that it will not look empty. If you look at the numbers, you will know the NPP’S have walked out more than the NDC has done,” he added.
