The Volta Youth Alliance, popularly known as Volta Speaks, has called for the immediate release of Madam Sedina Christine Tamakloe, urging the courts to carefully examine the constitutional and legal issues raised in her appeal case.
In a statement issued in Accra signed by the Convenor of the Alliance, the youth group said the appeal raises critical concerns about the constitutional right to a fair trial, the burden placed on the prosecution to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt, and whether the charges brought against the former official complied with the requirements of the law.
According to the group, these principles are fundamental to protecting the rights of citizens and preserving confidence in Ghana’s justice system.
The organisation argued that the courts should grant the appropriate remedies if it is established that the prosecution failed to meet the legal standard required for a conviction or if procedural irregularities affected the fairness of the trial.
The alliance stressed that justice must be administered fairly, impartially and in accordance with the Constitution, adding that judicial decisions should be guided solely by the evidence and the law rather than political influence or public sentiment.
While acknowledging the constitutional authority of the Attorney-General to defend the interests of the state and pursue appeals, the group maintained that the rights of all parties involved must be protected throughout the judicial process.
The organisation further contended that Madam Tamakloe should not remain in custody, insisting that the ruling of the appellate court should be upheld unless a competent court determines otherwise.
“The Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to a fair trial, and the prosecution bears the responsibility of proving its case beyond reasonable doubt,” the statement said.
The group also expressed the view that protecting the independence of the judiciary remains essential to strengthening democratic governance and maintaining public confidence in state institutions.
The case involving Madam Sedina Christine Tamakloe continues to generate widespread public attention, with many closely monitoring the outcome of the legal proceedings.
