KPONE: Husband kills wife; commits suicide after

A man believed to be in his late 40s, Thomas Kontoh, has allegedly butchered his wife who is also believed to be in her early 40’s, Lydia Amponsah at a community known as Gbetsile Soldier Line in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The man is alleged to have committed suicide by hanging after killing his wife on Tuesday dawn.

The man in his anger is said to have butchered the late Lydia Amponsah thereby cutting off both ears, her mouth and inflicting series of machete wounds on her.

According to a niece of the deceased, Michaela Okata who witnessed the incident around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, they were in their room when her aunt’s husband, now deceased came into the room and suddenly picked a quarrel with her late aunt pulling out a machete and started hacking the deceased.

She said, she had to run several kilometers to save her life, after the man begun chasing her with the blood stained machete.

Some persons who were interviewed at the scene also mentioned that there had been some confusion between the man and his wife in recent times.

However, it is not clear what might have triggered the latest incident.

Bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Police Morgue awaiting police investigations into the matter.

In other news: Soldier commits suicide at Burma Camp

A serving military officer with the Army Recruit Training School at Shai Hills, WOII, Robert Doku has allegedly committed suicide. 

WO Doku’s limp body was discovered Friday dawn hanging by a rope tethered to a tree among some growths at Burma Camp, headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces. 

No cause has immediately been offered for Doku’s alleged suicide. 

Sources at Burma Camp said that the police were called in to the crime scene to begin investigation, while the body has since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital.

WOII Robert Doku previously was stationed at the Base Ordnance Depot.
