The Rent Commissioner of Ghana, Frederick Opoku, has announced plans for another enforcement exercise at Makola Market as part of efforts to stop illegal rent and goodwill charges.
Speaking on Ghana Nie on Atinka TV, Mr. Opoku warned traders and property owners against charging unlawful goodwill fees, stressing that the practice remains illegal under Ghana’s rent laws.
He stated that authorities are determined to enforce compliance and ensure fairness in the rental system at the market.

According to him, some landlords and property owners continue to disregard the law despite repeated warnings from the Rent Control Department.

Mr. Opoku stressed that no individual, including politicians, would be spared if found violating the law.
He added that government is committed to strengthening enforcement measures to protect tenants and traders from exploitation.
