Police Arrest Two Over Disappearance of Accra Couple

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals in connection with the disappearance of a couple in Accra.

According to police, the Missing Persons Unit is investigating the case involving Jesse Amuah and Elizabeth Esi Amuah, who were reported missing under suspicious circumstances.

A complaint lodged on April 22, 2026, indicated that the couple had not been seen or heard from since March 23, 2026. The report further revealed that their residence was locked, their Nissan Sunny vehicle (registration number GX 159-X) was missing, and all attempts to contact them had failed.

Following the report, a joint team comprising officers from the Missing Persons Unit, Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, and the Crime Scene Management Team launched investigations into the matter.

Police say the team has since visited the couple’s residence and pursued multiple leads, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, whose identities have been withheld for investigative reasons.

The suspects are currently assisting with ongoing investigations as authorities intensify efforts to locate the missing couple.

The police have also appealed to the public to provide any credible information that could aid in finding the couple, urging individuals to report to the nearest police station.

Health Ministry Pays Nurses’ Arrears, Announces Plans to Recruit 16,000 Workers

The Ministry of Health, Ghana, has confirmed the payment of outstanding arrears to newly recruited nurses while outlining plans to significantly expand recruitment within the health sector.

In a statement issued on April 28, 2026, the Ministry said two months’ arrears owed to the nurses have been fully paid, in line with its earlier commitment. It added that the next round of payments—covering three months from May to July—will be processed as previously scheduled.

Recruitment Drive Underway

The Ministry also disclosed that it is preparing to recruit up to 16,000 health workers this year as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.

So far, financial clearance has been secured for about 8,000 positions, with ongoing efforts to obtain approval for the remaining slots. Authorities stressed that no recruitment will take place without the necessary financial backing.

The recruitment is expected to span various health professional categories to support the gradual absorption of trained personnel into the system.

Portal Challenges Acknowledged

Officials reiterated that the official recruitment portal remains the only authorised channel for applications, emphasising its role in ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.

However, the Ministry acknowledged that some applicants have faced difficulties accessing the portal due to high traffic volumes, leading to concerns among prospective candidates.

It assured the public that steps are being taken to address these challenges and secure additional recruitment clearances to accommodate more qualified applicants.

Commitment to Health Workforce

The Ministry expressed appreciation for the patience and cooperation of stakeholders, reaffirming its commitment to improving healthcare delivery through workforce expansion.

Individuals experiencing challenges or requiring further clarification have been advised to contact the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate for assistance.

Three Civilians Killed as Armed Men Attack Military-Escorted Convoy in Binduri

Three civilians have been killed following an attack on a military-escorted convoy in Ghana’s Upper East Region, the Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed.

In a statement issued on April 27, 2026, the military said the incident occurred in Binduri when unknown assailants opened fire on a convoy under military protection.

The convoy, which was travelling from Bawku to Bolgatanga, came under sustained gunfire, resulting in the deaths of three of the civilians being escorted. One other person sustained injuries.

Military Repels Attack

According to the statement, security personnel successfully repelled the attack, killing seven of the assailants in the process.

The military added that during follow-up operations, weapons and ammunition were recovered from one of the suspects who attempted to hide in a mosque. Items retrieved included a G3 rifle, loaded magazines, and additional rounds of ammunition.

Ten other suspects have since been arrested and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Warning to the Public

The Ghana Armed Forces cautioned the public against interfering in military or security operations, urging civilians to cooperate with authorities to ensure safety.

It also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has reaffirmed her commitment to improving teacher welfare and upgrading educational infrastructure across the constituency.

Speaking at a workshop organised in collaboration with the International Community for Learning and Social Spectrum, the MP—who also serves as Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources—highlighted the need for both capacity building and better working conditions for teachers.

The workshop focused on equipping educators with skills in artificial intelligence and modern technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in schools.

According to her, such initiatives are critical in preparing teachers for the demands of an increasingly digital world. However, she stressed that training alone is insufficient without adequate infrastructure.

“We are equipping teachers with modern skills, but it is equally important to provide the right environment for them to apply this knowledge,” she noted, pointing to the need for improved school facilities, renovations, and better accommodation.

She also revealed plans to complete abandoned teacher bungalow projects in the constituency, describing decent housing as a key factor in teacher motivation and retention.

Also addressing participants, Awutu Senya West District Chief Executive, Kalala Nyamekye Hagan, urged teachers to embrace technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence, to improve their work and positively impact students.

Meanwhile, educational psychologist Marian Benewaa Babah-Alargi encouraged teachers to avoid discrimination in the classroom, stressing that every child possesses unique abilities that must be nurtured.

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua has called for limited mobile phone access for inmates, saying it could help them maintain basic communication with loved ones.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge hosted by Ramn Fada, the HeavenWay Champion Ministry founder- popularly known as Agradaa -argued that prisoners should at least be allowed to use basic phones, not smartphones, to stay in touch with family members.

Drawing from her eight-month stay in prison, she explained that strict monitoring often makes even simple conversations difficult, leaving inmates emotionally disconnected.

“There are times you are speaking to your partner, and because of how you are guarded, you cannot even say ‘I love you,’” she said.

She described prison life as challenging, recalling moments she had to carry blocks barefooted. Despite public doubt about her incarceration, she maintained that she endured the experience by the grace of God.

Agradaa also highlighted the lack of entertainment in prisons, noting that inmates become excited whenever outreach programmes are organised, as such events offer temporary relief from their daily routine.

She added that efforts by artistes like Stonebwoy to perform for prisoners are commendable, as they help uplift the spirits of inmates.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge hosted by Roman Fada, the evangelist-popularly known as Agradaa – explained that her eight-month stay in prison exposed her to several challenges that need urgent attention, though she believes it is not appropriate to disclose them openly.

She recounted her personal experience, describing the conditions as difficult, including moments where she had to carry blocks barefooted.

According to her, many people doubt she actually served time, but she insists it was by “the grace of God” that she endured the period.

Agradaa Hints at Prison Reforms for Mahama

Agradaa, however, proposed that inmates should at least be allowed access to basic mobile phones – not smartphones – to enable them communicate with loved ones. She noted that strict supervision often makes even simple emotional conversations difficult.

World Malaria Day: Tobinco donates Over GHS 200,000 worth of medicines to UGMC

As Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark World Malaria Day, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited has donated medicines worth GHS 200,000 to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to support the fight against malaria.

The donation forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility aimed at improving healthcare delivery.

Malaria remains a major public health challenge in Ghana, particularly among children under five. The disease continues to claim lives, especially in rural and low-income communities where poor sanitation and low use of insecticide-treated nets persist.

World Malaria Day

To support ongoing efforts to reduce malaria cases, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, led by its Chairman, Elder Dr. Samuel Nana Amo Tobbin, presented assorted medicines to UGMC as part of activities marking this year’s World Malaria Day.

The items included antimalarial drugs such as Lufart and Entramol, as well as blood tonics and other essential medicines to aid in the treatment of patients.

Speaking during the presentation, the Managing Director of TPL Omega, Dr. Christopher Mensah, said the donation was to support the hospital in delivering quality care to malaria patients.

The Director of Pharmacy at UGMC, Josephine Mensah, expressed gratitude to the company on behalf of the hospital’s management and urged the public to adopt preventive measures against malaria.

The Greater Accra Zongo Caucus has strongly condemned a recent attack on a Ghanaian citizen in South Africa, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.

In a statement issued by its coordinator, Ismaila Ali Horoya, the group said the attack underscores the ongoing vulnerability of Africans living within the continent and called for urgent action to address such incidents.

The caucus denounced xenophobia, violence, and discrimination against foreign nationals, particularly Africans, warning that such acts undermine the ideals of Pan-African unity and cooperation.

Commendation for Government Response

The group commended Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, for what it described as a swift and proactive response to the incident.

According to the statement, the minister’s engagement reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of its citizens abroad and strengthens confidence in Ghana’s diplomatic efforts.
