Residents of Tse-Addo unhappy with police response to activities of land guards

Some residents of Tse- Addo, a surburb of Labadi in the Greater Accra region, are unhappy about police response to activities of land guards with support from politicians and influential persons within the community.

According to residents, the activities of these hoodlums who are being sponsored by some high ranking officials, have compelled most of them to abandon their building projects for fear of losing their lives. They say, they are compelled to either hire the services of thugs to defend their properties, or re-sell their lands at a minimal amount just to forgo the headache of dealing with these hoodlums.

A visit to the area, revealed some abandoned properties, while others which were at a footing stage, had been marked to stop work.

Chairman of the Residents’ Association, Samuel Adafor said, they are scared to speak on the issue, since the police have done little to protect their interest. He said reports so far point one influential person(name withheld) as being the main culprit, behind these attacks.

He said they have the necessary land title certificate and deeds to prove ownership of the land.

Abdullah Aziz, whose boss is facing similar challenges, wants the police hierarchy to as a matter of urgency investigate the involvement of some uniform personnel in the matter. He said despite they providing the police with the necessary documents, they always side with the accused persons.

Meanwhile, the La District Police commander, Supt Anita Abrokwa in a phone call said, her command is not aware of such threats as being reported, but assured a thorough investigation will be carried out on the matter.
