Nearly a month after torrential rains triggered severe flooding across parts of Accra, leaving many residents displaced and damaging several public and private facilities, the Baze Movement has donated relief items and financial support to six affected churches to aid their recovery.
The donations, which included church chairs valued at GH¢620,000, were presented to six congregations that suffered significant losses during the floods. The beneficiary churches are Kpehe Methodist Church, Dansoman Otodjor Presbyterian Church, Otodjor Pentecost Church, Otodjor Apostolic Church, House of Grace Revival Ministry at Blue Lagoon, and one additional congregation added to the initial list of beneficiaries.
The donation exercise was led by the Founder of the Base Movement, George Oti Bonsu, together with the group’s Political Leader and independent presidential candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY).
Speaking during the presentation, church leaders expressed appreciation to the Base Movement for remembering them at a time when many congregations are still recovering from the effects of the disaster.
They noted that the support would help restore normal worship services and ease the burden on affected members.
Addressing the Press, Mr. Yeboah attributed the recurring floods in Accra largely to choked drains and poor sanitation.
He announced that the Base Movement intends to mobilize resources to desilt selected gutters across the capital as part of efforts to reduce future flooding.
“We cannot continue to witness the same devastation every year. Beyond providing relief, we want to contribute to preventing these disasters by supporting efforts to clear blocked drains,” he said.
Founder George Oti Bonsu said the donation reflects the Movement’s commitment to supporting communities in times of need. He disclosed that the group has broader plans aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.
Mr. Bonsu also stated that the Movement is awaiting confirmation from former presidential aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong regarding his willingness to lead the group.
According to him, members of the Baze Movement believe in Mr. Agyapong’s vision of creating employment opportunities for young people and promoting patriotism across the country.
The donation forms part of the Movement’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support faith-based institutions and vulnerable communities affected by natural disasters.
