The Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Elder Samuel Amo Tobbin, has described Atinka TV’s award-winning reality show, Di Asa, as a heaven-sent initiative that has transformed the lives of many plus-size women across Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of the 10th anniversary edition of the programme at the DOR Event Annex in North Kaneshie, Elder Amo Tobbin said the show had empowered women who were once ridiculed and excluded from public life because of their body size.

He noted that before the introduction of Di Asa, many plus-size women lacked the confidence to attend public gatherings due to the derogatory names they were often called.

“I believe Di Asa is from heaven because it has truly empowered women,” he said.

Elder Amo Tobbin recounted how the idea for the reality show was conceived after he witnessed a group of women dancing at the DOR Event Centre following a church service.

According to him, one woman’s energetic performance, which lasted for more than an hour, inspired him to bring the concept to television.

“I saw a woman dancing for over an hour, and I was so impressed that I decided to bring that talent to television,” he said.

He explained that after the idea was conceived, he convened a meeting during which the name Di Asa was chosen, and he directed the team to begin production immediately.

The Tobinco Group Chairman said management had never regretted introducing the programme, describing its impact on Ghanaian women as remarkable.

He expressed gratitude to all the contestants, managers and everyone who had contributed to the success of the show over the past decade.

Elder Amo Tobbin also announced that this year’s anniversary edition would feature a special package and disclosed that he would personally attend the grand finale to present the ultimate prize to the winner.
