Five chamber and hall apartments, along with cash, international passports, household items and other personal belongings, were destroyed in a fire outbreak at Adade Obroni Down in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The fire reportedly started at about 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, while tenants were outside their rooms and they suddenly noticed flames coming from one of the apartments.
Residents immediately attempted to extinguish the fire, but their efforts proved unsuccessful as the flames spread rapidly to adjoining rooms.
By the time personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene, all five apartments had been engulfed in flames and were subsequently destroyed. Several household appliances, personal belongings and other valuables were also consumed by the fire. Among the items reportedly lost were US$3,000, GH¢200,000, passports and other important documents.
The total value of the property destroyed has not yet been officially established. However, residents estimate that the losses could run into millions of Ghana cedis.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, although preliminary indications point to a possible electrical fault. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause.
Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported, as all occupants managed to escape safely.
